November 5th 2009
First, I would like to announce that Doctor Goo and Doctor Zaman are on leave for the next four months. Second, I am glad to announce that we have two new doctors on staff. Doctor Mehta who started September 15th and Doctor Shorr who started October 12th.
The regular flu vaccine is currently out of stock. We do have the regular influenza vaccine for children (6 months to 36 months).
People recommended for seasonal influenza vaccination during the 2009-10 season remain the same as the previous season:
- Children aged 6 months up to their 19th birthday
- Pregnant women
- People 50 years of age and older
- People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions
- People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
- People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:
- Health care workers
- Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu
- Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated)
The Swine flu (H1N1) vaccine is not in yet. I still anticipate we will receive the vaccine any day now...(it is confirmed that we will receive some but do not know the amount or the restrictions/recommeded populations to receive it yet). Check here for updates as they occur. I will try to update at least every two weeks.
Remember the best way to prevent the spread of the flu is to wash your hands regularly and cover your mouth with a mask if you have a cough. Also cough into your elbow not your hand.
Sincerely,
